The Cab Driver
Last night, while returning from movies, I took a cab to home. The first thing that hit me when i boarded the cab was hindi music, which was playing in it. I looked at the driver, and I think he was chinese. Hindi music in a cab, in Malaysia, after being here for couple of months, was fantastic. Even though I wouldn't listen to it, when back @ home, but here its become a delicacy, a representation of my country, which I enjoy.
The time was passing by, I was looking outside the road, light drizzle was going on, and we're getting closer by the mile to my destination. Then from the little recent, the song goes to a Hindi Oldie, which was .. if i remember correctly .. "bheege chaman ke tale" .. Had I been back home, I wouldn't've been listening to this channel anyway, but here I enjoyed listening to those words. They kind of gave me peace. I put my head back and relaxed while looking outside. Suddenly, this gentleman driving the cab, puts up the volume. I turned to see his face, and saw a smile, which meant, he was enjoying the music. I asked him, "do you understand these songs". He said "no". I smiled, and asked, "do you understand the language". He looked at me, and simply said, "I just love these songs. Don't know what they mean, but I like listening to them", and after saying so, he got back to concentrating on the road, to drive ahead.
Well what I learnt from that little time spent with him, while he was driving, was that, we may not value what we have, when we have abundance of it, but there're many people who look for peace and do appreicate what others have. I personally listen to a lot of other music, rather than Indian contemporary, which is once in a while only, but never got them related that closely, as I felt last night.
